Luc Doerflinger

Born in 1966, lives and works in France

Luc Doerflinger was born in Strasbourg in 1966. After a master's degree in plastic arts at the University of Strasbourg and a D.N.S.E.P. at the Ecole Nationale d'Art de Cergy, he settled in Nancy where he lives and works.

Doerflinger examines the relationship between the viewer and the image by focusing on the concept of painting. The recurring subjects shown that are key to his work each embody painting in their own way. His paintings are best experienced as a scenography rather than single works of art. Through paintings, drawings, engravings, and light installations, he addresses the dualities of animality - humanity, enchantment - disenchantment, reality - ghosts and questions the relationship between the painter and painting.

His work is regularly shown by the Maeght Gallery (Paris, Barcelona, and San Francisco) and the Modulab Gallery. These recent works take the form of large assemblages of images (drawings, prints, paintings) in which the recurring figures of his work act as the protagonists of suspended narratives.
