Eizo Sakata

Born in 1954, lives and works in Japan

Eizo Sakata is an artist born in Toyohashi (Japan) and living in Paris. He works in-situ in very different contexts. His work touches many fields (painting, land art, performance). His approach, which he calls "active passivity", consists of immersing himself in the natural and cultural context before making a specific creative response. This is his way of evoking his ecological concerns, of intervening in nature. Water, the main component of life, is often at the centre of his works. Thus, we find this element in his summer 2013 project, still in progress, of drawings with sea water and Indian ink.

Since the Fukushima disaster, Eizo Sakata has been experimenting as an artist with a different relationship to the world, concerned with preventing the ecological wounds of our planet and revealing the beauty and expressive power of the elements that constitute it.
